ReOpus V. Opus

ReOpus
Original Opus
Redesigned from the ground up using the highest quality components available today. It has been designed for reliability and performance and component cost was not a prime factor. Designed with cost as the prime factor using the limited range of components available in when first designed in the 1960s.
Uses 1% precision metal film resistors with a low temperature co-efficient providing stability at all temperatures. Used low quality, carbon and wire wound resistors that were susceptible to temperature fluctuations.
Uses capacitors with 100°C/212ºF + temperature rating. Used Mylar/Polyester capacitors (85°C temperature rating)
Is voltage regulated for reliable and accurate triggering and precise timing between cylinders. Not voltage regulated, therefore the trigger point is variable, resulting in ignition timing errors and misfiring.
Uses a modern integrated circuit oscillator, a differential amplifier and FET transistors, all with high temperature ratings and low operating currents. The circuit generates little heat and therefore a lower operating temperature and circuit stability is maintained. The coil transistor is a high speed, insulated gate, bipolar transistor designed specifically for ignition coil applications producing a powerful spark. This component overcomes the problems created by the voltage drop and the relatively slow ON/OFF times of the original coil transistor. Used old transistor technology requiring high base currents for fast switching, which added to the already high operating temperatures of the OPUS amplifier. The result is the circuit becomes unstable as the amplifier unit heats up. The slow ON/OFF times resulted in a weak spark.
Uses high strength, double sided fibreglass circuit boards with all components being soldered each side for mechanical stability. Used single sided Bakelite circuit boards which have become fragile over time.
